Perhaps when the temperatures stay more constant and they get some rain they will all shoot up! My Jack Flash are very slow, was beginning to wonder if it was just me, so thanks for sharing that yours are the same Geranium Jasmine, I have one blade of 'grass' in a 'molinia' pot - doubt I'll get much of a show from it but at least one germinated (or it could be some weedy grass seed that snuck in the pot when I wozn't looking ) Tig

Some things have perked up after the rain...guess we'll just have to wait and see Some of my cosmos are flowering, even though they are not much bigger than seedlings ( no, they aren't dwarf ones ;D)

I fancied lobelia tupa and ordered some seeds - waited ages for them to germinate and they are just like trailing lobelia seedlings - will these really grow into 5 ft plants? ? x Tig

The lobelia tupa are now growing into 'giants' - some have gone into their final places, whilst others will have to wait for gaps to appear. The silene Jack Flash were planted out but they aren't growing much quicker than when in pots. The molinia transparent now has more leaves on it, so I'm hopeful for that. I'm delighted I've got my first ever echium pininana germinated and growing quite well, hope it's meant to be spotty x Tig

Just an update on some babes ... these are the japanese poppies, the lychnis viscaria and the brassicas flopping about behind which got planted out this week In front here are the delphiniums from seed RF sent, the other modules are sown with aqualegias from Barbara which need to get a wriggle on!! Behind are some of the verbascums, lobelia tupa and belamcanda chinensis which I must plant out soon! and after months and months of waiting, I think I've got 2 pulsatilla vulgaris red cloak seedlings germinated

For a few years I have tried to germinate sinocalycanthus chinensis seeds that RF kindly sends me from Germany This year she managed to get me some very fresh seeds and I tried a different method - nicked and baggied in a gritty compost mix on 22/10/2011, kept on a sunny windowsill with fluctuating temperatures day/night. Well today when I looked at the bag Not sure what I'm doing but as the seed casings are extremely leathery I've carefully taken it off and potted on the rooted seedling. It will stay indoors over the winter and hopefully grow into a beautiful shrub ;D If I've done it wrong I will get another chance, as I can see two more seeds starting to make roots! Wooooooooo hoooooooooooo x Tig

How old do you think I'll be before I see my first flower? ;D I don't care how long they take to grow, the pleasure was in achieving germination - you all know what I'm like by now with my seed 'experiments' Thanks for persevering with me RF x Tig

Even more excitement just now, I went to move some pots off the sill in the front bedroom and I have loads of baby crambe cordifolias and some stipa calmagrostis Wonder how quickly they'll grow, may need a bigger house by spring x Tig
|
|
|
Post by Tig on Nov 12, 2011 14:19:32 GMT
Answer to how quickly the crambe grow .... darned fast! Blinking eck - I've got eight seedlings germinated, five are over 3" tall already. And as an experiment I baggied some to see which germinated fastest - the ones in the compost were the winners, but today the ones in the bag are growing roots! So if anyone wants to adopt one let me know asap, otherwise I will have to ditch some. So far I've got 3 stipa calamagrostis germinated and another sinocalycanthus which is going to a good home x Tig

Ah always some one who is first Good to revive this thread Tig as I do like it. I have sown some cold loving ones but it is too soon for them to be up in the CF Although the SP with roots on in the pod are now doing fine in said CF

Thanks Tig, I only managed to get 2 to germinate and thought there was something wrong with them as they each have one very long leaf. I'd not grown them ever before and thought there must be something wrong with them but now I see it's normal.

The best thing now it that the search facility works on the thread, so just by typing what seedlings you are looking for in the search box top right you can see if there are any images Like I have just done, looking for thalictrums, and Jilly posted back in 2011 - mine have more leaf showing though. I thought they look a bit like aqualegia and might get weeded out in the garden!
