Unfortunately, my contorted Willow has had to go as whatever the virus was (can't remember what they are susceptable too now) it was getting worse. However, the good news is that the pot it was in survived intact and so after it has been given a good clean with Jeyes, I will be planting it with 3 different clems that I have and some tulips and anemones. I would quite like to put an obelisk in the pot for the clems to grow up. Does anyone have any suggestions as to where I might be able to find a reasonably priced one. I would quite like a coated metal one?

I have 2 pots of clems with coated obelisks in Bagpuss. They are exspensive but i found one in my local GC that was slightly damaged so it was cheaper. My OH just had to fasten the top wires together and it just does the job. It worth looking round your GC and searching out these bargains you may have a nice suprise.

Is there a Smithy anywhere near you? When you make a drawing of a simple obelisk they can at times make it real cheap and even coat it if you want but that is cheaper done yourself. Welding 4 rods together and making a blob at the top does not break the Bank.

Bagpuss, I know this isn't a metal one but they caught my eye at The Eden Project. They were made of 3 poles with willow whips spiralled round the poles. They had clems growing up the ones they had made. You could make them any height/width you wanted.

I always look at them in the GC and think they are quite expensive. Not sure as I would buy online unless I'd already seen them in the flesh, I'd want to be able to see how good they were, some I've looked at in the GC have not been very strong looking. TBO I like the rustic look of those that Jasmine posted a pic of, maybe you could go down the home made route BP.

Thanks all for your suggestions. After seeing that pic, I think I may change my mind, and might even have a go myself as suggested.

I've emailed them and asked them if they deliver to Northern Ireland before I start looking Jasmine. Too many times I look and make orders only to find that they don't.

It is annoying for you isn't it LG? I noticed on a web site the other day that the far flung reaches of Scotland were charged more for P&P. It's the same country - it must annoy some folk.

It is annoying you're right. I'd love to have a go at trying to make a structure with willow and canes.

As I had a £10 National Garden Gift Voucher (courtesy of BBC Gardeners World magazine publishing some of my comments in a survey), I put it towards a black metal obelisk from Brookside at the weekend.
Will take a picture and post shortly. The more natural looking ones unfortunately did not look very well made.

It's taken me a bit of time to get around to doing this, but here is the obelisk. Went for a square one in the end, as it was going in a square pot!

Very nice bagpuss. If anyone else is looking for a metal obelisk, I've just taken delivery of a couple of the Parisienne ones from Dobbies/Dobies? online for my dads birthday. They were here in two days, free delivery too!

Homebase had some reduced from £19.99 to £14.99 when I was in there earlier this week - I will go back next week and see if they have come down to half price (oh and checkout if they have any galvanised planters left as well ;D)

I love it when a plan comes together Just thought I would pop along and see if they had any reduced troughs (only black metal ones for £2.98, but I thought they would get too hot) - low and behold the obelisks were down to £9.99 ... bargain I managed to put it together all by myself as well, took this photo before I had tightened all the nuts & bolts. I hope it looks lovely covered in sweet peas (or maybe a couple more clems ) x Tig

That looks like a good job Tig and a bargain at that price, how green your grass looks. Mine is destroyed with me having to walk on it during the snow and ice to set out food for the birds.

I was very pleased with it - quite a sturdy construction (and OH hasn't touched it ) I noticed (typically ) that the new Argos catalogue has got a pair of obelisks for £12.99p!!!! If anyone invests it would be interesting to know what they think of them, as I might have room for a couple more if they aren't too cheap and nasty x Tig

How tall is yours Tig, I looked at the Argos one it's 190 but that would include the spike at the top most likely. The weight is 1.5kg that seems quite light to me, what do you think? I would'nt mind them myself.
