This one always reminds me of a game we used to play"Beat the Intro" I think we stole it from a radio show. This particular tune was never allowed as is was too easy. Procol Harum - Whiter shade.. uk.youtube.com/watch?v=t0m9xosbLxYdessert- just a little trifle Island Yell, and I do not envy the journey

I have a question for FA and CPC (and anyone else who wants to chip in) ... are we doing top 10 (or 20/30 if Slugger gets his way !) favourite songs (as in the ones we actually like best) or 10 songs we would choose for desert island discs (as in the ones which are most significant to us)? 'Cos up until now mine have been more or less the same but they're going to start diverging soon and I'm having trouble deciding which ones to pick

Juliet
My idea originally was to have your top 10 favourite songs. CPC then started this thread for people to name their top 10's but imposed the rules that you can only post 1 per artist etc. Since then, it's become more of a general "I love this song" thread, which is fine. It doesn't matter to me whether people are doing their top 10's or just putting in songs that they like.
I'm going to do my number 1 later and then I may post a few more favourites that didn't quite make it into my final selection.

I'm guessing it will come as no surprise to those who know my musical tastes that at number 1 in my all time top 10 is an OMD track. In reality, if CPC hadn't imposed the "only 1 song per artist" rule, there would be several OMD tracks in my top 10. Strangely, I prefer their album tracks to their singles and of my top 5 OMD tracks, none of them are any of the singles ! I don't know why I love their music, I just do. I've been a fan of theirs since 1980, have all of their albums to date, I've seen them about 13 times live (including 3 times this year) and I listen to some of their music at least once a week. My all time favourite track of theirs (and therefore the number 1 on my list) is "The Beginning and The End" from their album "Architecture and Morality" which just also happens to be my favourite album of all time. There's no YouTube video for that track but I'll post some video's of some of their singles when I start doing my "tracks that I considered for my top 10 but didn't quite make it" selection......!! In the meantime, here's the video of probably their most famous hit single, "Enola Gay" uk.youtube.com/watch?v=01SBf0tsLyIFA x

Now why am I not surprised by your no. 1, FA?! Sorry, they didn't make it to my list, though I do have some of their singles. My next choice is Transvision Vamp - I love Wendy James's voice and I had trouble picking one of their songs, but in the end I decided for once to go for the obvious one rather than the obscure album track so I've chosen Baby I Don't Care. I should probably have that with a tart of some sort ... redcurrant, I think, somewhere on the Scilly isles.

About time I added another GH all time favourite......if I ever understand how them 'pod' things work, this will go on it I went to see an 'unknown' band play in a fairly dingy pub in Hackney, I only went because a pal got some free tickets and the sax player Courtney Pine was doing abit of a session there. I had such a great night, danced still my feet hurt from wearing high heeled stiletto's , and then walked home......because we couldn't find a night bus or a cab, didn't mind as we talked the whole way home about the band we'd seen and the fact that the lead singer had the most amazing hair!! (And, of course, the alcohol helped numb the foot pain!!) The unknown band were brilliant ;D.......Courtney pine was OK About 6 months or so later everyone was talking about them....... It also reminds me of my lovely OH.....we danced around many a nightclub floor to this, before he was the OH of course , and I think it's quite a happy song ;D Soul 2 Soul and Back to Life.......Enjoy Dessert......anywhere with the OH or a white chocolate something......preferably both

Are you saying Wendy James is a Scilly tart.......? ;D That wasn't quite what I was thinking, FA! Cheery - I like Friday I'm In Love too - was on my long list but didn't make my top 20 - there are too many songs .... aaargh! Anyway, for those list-obsessed people like me, here's a quick recap of mine so far with youtube links now I've discovered to my surprise that youtube actually works on this computer (I'll have to go back and listen to everyone else's songs now, won't I?!). Oh - and just to confuse Slugger, I've now put my list into order of preference. 1. Days, Kirsty MacColl: 2. Dishes, Pulp: 3. Good As Gold, The Beautiful South: 4. 40, U2: 5. Despair, Japan: strangely enough there are no clips of this really obscure album track on youtube, so here are a couple of their better known songs - a really depressing avant-garde one: and a slightly more conventional/upbeat one: 6. Wild Is The Wind, David Bowie: 7. Psalm, Roxy Music: again, there aren't any clips of this, so here's another song from the Stranded album (not sure about the home-made video someone's put with it though!): 8. Baby I Don't Care, Transvision Vamp: To be continued ...

Well, I'm sure I've gone over 10! But until I check back and have a count up, I'm going to choose my last three. They haven't been in any order, so if I get told off and have to drop some, I'll be stuck. I love Keane, as soon as I heard them I knew I would like their first album, and I loved every track. I have chosen Somewhere Only We Know 'cos I think it's a stonker! uk.youtube.com/watch?v=3rpzjZrk_8gI've also got a Beatles track. I'm not a huge fan, but I think they have been an incredible influence over the years, and they did make some great songs. My Favourite is If I Fell: uk.youtube.com/watch?v=Eh5YwjfaCXkAnd lastly, as I also love Faithless, and have a bit of a mothering thing going for Robbie [even though he is only about 5 or so years younger than me! ] I have chosen One Giant Leap - My Culture. A match made in heaven! ;D This has been fun, brought back loads of memories. Thanks FA and the Capt!

Thought I'd add another of my favourites, don't know what number I'm up to (is anyone bothered ;D) George Michael, Careless Whisper........for the great line....... 'Guilty feet have got no rhythm' and the fact that I only have to hear the opening few bars and it makes me go all soppy. Actually could have picked any George Michael or Wham! track....... I sure am a girl of the '80's Time to 'scrunch dry' my hair and get out the shoulder pads Forgot the dessert.......oops!!
