Does anyone else grow this plant? It's in flower now. Its name is Ypsilandra thibetica - evergreen and grows in a part-shady position.

Sighhh. It's at this time every year when I begin to think that maybe coming to Canada instead of going to England probably wasn't such a good idea, afterall. The only spring blooms around here is "snowflakeris coldica". It comes in white only, and only appears when the temperature drops down to around freezing. Sighhh. However, there is hope because in areas where snowflakeris has melted away (sunny day yesterday), I am seeing the tips of emerging daffodil shoots.

I really do feel as though I am alive again - the sun is shining and from nearly minus6C last night we have reach the incredible heights of +1,4C but the sun directly on the terrace was 34.8decC - definitely more my style!! Now then - look at my little treasures - what a few rays of sun can do.... and finally showing through plants that I still have covered up - these little crocuses... All's well with the world today... RF

I remember this last year RF - one minute you seem to be in the depths of winter and then everything comes alive!

Thanks Jas - yes it is as though suddenly someone flips a switch and Spring has arrived....we are still in for some very cold and horrible days, but we are getting there, at long last.

That's a good way of explaining it - I was going to say it's like you suddenly whizz past 'Go' without collecting £200. We get a build up here but suddenly your garden springs into action!

Yes the UK starts and stops slowly - same in Autumn - we expect the first frosts in September/Oct and we are suddenly in the middle of winter and in the UK the garden is still alive.
TT has it worse though although his garden does the same as mine - it suddenly starts, all at once....
