I still use imperial measures, and what's more I find it very irritating when TV commentators insist on giving only metric measures. Admittedly from a practical point of view decimal currency is easier to deal with than £sd but we have still lost the history that went with the old coinage. Pre Feb 15th 1971 (Decimal Day if anyone can't remember) it wasn't unusual to get pennies bearing Queen Victoria's image in your change and all monarchs in between come to that (apart from Edward VIII of course!). As I've said before if gallons are good enough for the USA then they're good enough for us here in the old country! i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/wink.gif Selling petrol priced per litre disguises the truely astronomical cost of the fuel. I can well remember my dad's shock at petrol selling for over £1 per gallon in the 1970s and come to that a similar experience on finding an out of town one pump merchant charging 5 bob (25 pence) a gallon in the mid 60s. i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/grin.gif

My local Shell Garage has erected a huge sign showing their prices in bright red glowing letters - I will try to read them today and report back I "filled up" as I thought on Sunday - I normally do this once a fortnight or every three weeks - and usually put in £40 - when leaving the petrol station I noticed that £40 only filled the car up to 3/4 of the tank so goodness knows how much now it is to "fill up"

My hubbys car is a diesel, the firm he works for make them have them , no petrol cars on offer, but with the price of it racing ahead of petrol , I think that might change prretty soon.

Diesel is much cleaner now Jasmine, and there is virtually no smell. Diesel cars run better than they used to as well ( they used to take time to get going ) and are no longer noisy. Pity they improved them so much, just as diesel prices went through the roof ;D Still, we are very happy with ours

Diesel might be more expensive at the pump, but OH gets about 450 miles from a tank - I get about 360 from my petrol car.

I can't see it - too much unrest in a lot of the oil producing countries and the govt won't cut the tax significantly I don't suppose

The barrel price of oil is going up and up according to the news tonight so we have at least 2 more months of price rises to deal with apparently
