Yesterday we ended up with 3 orphan lambs in total not from us but from friends who had heard we needed one well you cant turn them away so no I have 1 back on the bottle but 2 have gone to the Ewe who lost hers. Spit and Spot have been accepted by their new mums so today the skins will come off them and with a bit of luck they will be moved into the nursery pen at the weekend where they can run and jump to their hearts content. Only 3 lambed yesterday and I think there are about 27 left in the first bunch to lamb then the 300+ start at the end of the month so my updates may get a little less depending on whats happening. This morning I'm shattered I cant sleep with this wind blowing as it howl throught the electric pylons its so eerie and still after 28yrs I cant get used to it. Well I'm off to feed my kid so catch you all later and thank you for the nominations I'll tell junior he has been 1 of the nominated pics to go on our calender for next month. ;D

You two crack me up sometimes it can be very stressful but at the end rewarding, a few years ago I had to be sent to bed as I was so tired nobody could understand a word I said but after a few hours kip I was back to my old self still knackered it does get harder the older you get trying to do things you could do easily back then just take a lot longer now. We do have help at the weekends and sometimes during the week but mostly its just OH and myself. We get there in the end.

Only 1 so far this morning and she wont have anything to do with her lamb so she will be put in the naughty crate till she does. I got another orphan lamb last night from a friend so Poppy has a friend it was one off a Herdwick sheep which had triplets. We moved some mums and lambs into the nursery area yesterday but 1 had to come back to the pens as she was throwing her lamb about not wanting to have anything to do with it so she is in the naughty crate, we have no idea why she suddenly decided to not want her lamb as she had been with it for 3 days in the pen? stupid sheep, right I better get the milk on for the babies so catch you all later.

It's not even straightforward is it Carolann? What happens in the naughty crate - are the mother and lamb kept really close together so they have to bond?

Goodness, it's as well you're there to keep an eye on them Carol. I was wondering about the naughty crate too.

I'll take a picture of it later for you but its a metal crate type thing where the mother cannot hurt the lamb but the lamb can still drink from her OH made 2 after seeing one at a show a few years ago.

Shame we don't all live nearer, think you would have plenty of volunteer helpers if we did Carolann Must be very frustrating at times, wonder if animals can suffer from post-natal depression? Can't imagine them rejecting their young x Tig

What a good idea about volunteering - have you thought about advertising Carolann - am sure if I saw an ad in local paper for help on local farms I would be down there like a shot
Am from a farming background ;D
If you dont ask.....

Stupid sheep seem to be holding on to their babies we have had nothing lamb for a couple of days, 1 will have to have her lamb taken off her as she has prolapsed and it wont stay in OH has put a prolapse spoon in (farming impliment) its T shaped but its wide and rounded at the top with string to tie it to the wool but she is still pushing it back out so she may have to go for killing. We had 1 a few years ago which did the same and Oh give it the benifit and it ended up dead one morning with a very big lamb left to raise eventually we did manage to get a mother for it but it was touch and go what to do with it. Right off to feed the rabble.

Went in to feed the kids last night 10pm and 2 had decided to start having their babies so it was just turned 11pm when we got back in, typical all day and they wait till we want to go to bed. The knacker chap took the prolapsed sheep but the good news is one of those that lambed last night got another baby ;D so I'm back to 2 in the foster pen. OH has just said that the other lot should start around the 24th so thats next week we shall see. This morning there has been another 2 which have lambed but 1 wont have anything to do with its lamb. I tried up-loading on PB but I'm having problems so I will try again later if I get time.
