It seems to me a surprising number of mothers reject their offspring Carol. Looking forward to seeing whatever pics you can manage. It's good to hear you're moving along there.

Its not a lot really LG but it does seem so sometimes. Last night Hoodini's kid had her baby a little girl and she is soooooo cute I'll get a pic of them both today and try to upload them later. Daughter went out for a ride on her horse yesterday and she found a ewe and lamb on the moor so OH went to fetch them both down. Right my battery is running out so I better get this on charge I'll fill you all in later on today.

Thank you for the nominations ladies I'll tell hoodini when I go down later. Only 1 so far this morning I think there is about 15 left of the first bunch to lamb then the fun and games start and it could be very llittle sleep. OH is thinking of having so many sponged next year that means that they will have like a coil/cap fitted so the tups cannot mate with them then after 3 weeks its removed and they all should come in season on the same day so in theory they should all lamb within a couple of days dont know if I'm looking forward to that depending on how many he sponges hope its not the lot or I could end up in a heap somewhere through lack of sleep we will have to have a long talk about it right thats it for now and I'll be back later.

Thanks C. I'd give a 4th nomination if I could - what a clever girl she is Seems to be feast or famine when it comes to lambing - hope you get some sleep

That sponging sounds like it could mean very little sleep for you but I'm sure you'll both work it out. Try to get as much rest in between if you can Carol.

Lovely pics as usual Carol, Houdini is very photogenic, she even smiles for the camera Getting the ewes sponged would mean you need to get a lot of helpers in at the time of lambing wouldn't it? I suppose the issue of 'rejecting' mothers and orphans would be easier to resolve, but any poor feeders could see you with a lot to hand feed Like most choices it's balancing the pros & cons I s'pose. This farming lark is only for the very brave, or bonkers x Tig

Yes Tig you have hit the nail on the head Bonkers we is us farmers All the sheep and lambs which have been outside have been moved up onto the moor today so we have been busy going back and forth all afternoon. Went in the big shed at 5pm to give them their hay and there in the corner of a pen was a very tiny lamb very good lungs on it for such a tiny thing and guess what the mother has hardly any milk for the little thing plus it is early, we had one last night just the same but the mother had zero milk so it is in the orphan pen with Poppy and Herdy who looks very big at the side of it. I will be making it some milk up soon to see if I can get it to drink but the size of his tummy is so small I bet it only has about 50ml and it will be bloated poor little thing I will take my camera tomorrow and get some shots of them tomorrow.

Been a little busy these last few days some of the main bunch have had lambs this morning there has been 2 sets of twins and 1 single and yesterday it was the same, I did take my camera the other day but have not up-loaded the pics yet. There has been quite a lot of prolapses this year and OH thinks its becasue they are too well fed so he has cut the corn down on all that are inside on 1 Ewe we have tried all differant ways of keeping the lamb bed in but she still keeps pushing it out last night we tied string (6 lots) around the wool to try and keep it in but this morning its out again not sure what we can do next apart from putting some stitches in and I dont fancy doing that. Little Herdy has got a mum but Poppy is not having any of it she wants to stay with me and when I go in the shed I lift her out so she can have a run around she does have a new playmate but he is very small yet. If its not too late and I'm not too tired I will fill you all in later.

You get some rest we can wait for the pics..... I never realised that there was so much to lambing..in my ignorance I just thought that they popped them out and then off back to the fields I bet it looks sweet when Poppy is running around after you...she thinks that you are her mummy.

Just come in for some breakfast after a busy 2 hours time does fly when your having fun ;D there have been 4 births so far this morning 3 singles and 1 set of twins where I had to pull the last twin out as she was tired (I know how she feels) had another walk around the shed and all seems quiet but that could change any moment like yesterday I went in all quiet then OH went 5 mins later and there was a set of twins later on it happened the other way around. I will have to help some of the little ones till they get a bit stronger as mums dont have a lot of milk yet but they will come to some if the lambs keep trying to drink off them, still not up loaded the pics yet but I will. Lots to do in the shed this morning as al the old hay needs clearing from in the front of the pens and new putting down after they are brought in the shed 1 of the big round bales lasts just 2 days for 6 pens. The muck trailer need to be emptied as well, a busy day.

Yet another busy morning on the lambing front we have been at it since 6am and at 8am 1 was a very difficult birth even after an hour of us trying to get the lamb out it was no good but OH had another go after breakfast and finally managed to get it out but sadly it was dead and we have not put another lamb on here as she was exhausted same as I was. Just popped in for some lunch seeing as I missed breakfast as I was taking daughter to work and when I got back it was feeding time in all the sheds and inbetween lambing a couple, then it was turning out of the bigger/stronger lambs and mums and marking up some of the smaller ones for going into the nersery part of the shed., now its almost feeding time of the lambs again so I better put the kettle on and get their milk ready, I have 4 sets of twins to help and 4 singles oh and Poppy and George who should be OK with their feeder bucket till tea time. This morning as OH was going down to the shed he saw a MINK so now I have that thing to worry about as well as everything else as I dont want that getting into the chicken houses. If he gets time later he will put a trap down and bait it with some tuna to try and catch the dam thing. It may be weekend when I get time to upload another lot of pics so thats it for now.

Well today has been hectic at 6am there where 8 which had lambed now we are up to 17 so we are run off our feet, our friend Dave is here giving us a lift as we needed to bed down all the sheds again in between running back and forth across the yard. I now have 5 lambs in the orphan pen and am helping 4/5 little ones as the mums have not got enough milk just yet but some of the other ones I was helping are now on their own and doing great. There have been some very big lambs born this morning and they all seem to be doing very well and have bonded with their mothers and vise versa. Well thats it for now so I will be off again now I have had a cuppa catch you all later.

How's you back coping Carol? So much to do, so many babies, you must be completely bonkers now!!
Is OH still considering the sponging for next year, or has he come to his senses now?
