My Empress is flowering now and it's lovely, Ville D Lyon has a couple of blooms as well. The trouble with both of them is that they're blooming right at the top of the oblisk. Any thoughts for next year on how I can get them to bloom further down. I'll get a pic later. Ment to say, your General Sikorski is a lovely deep jewl shade. i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/smiley.gif

Tig was saying on her garden thread that it seems to be a good year for Clematis, I think they liked all that rain (well someone had too i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/grin.gif ). Niobe, this has tucked itself up under the Acer, I think the colour stays truer with a bit of shade. Crystal Fountain, this is the one that I rescued last Spring, it's flowering quite low down because it's planted quite away from the support (the only place I could dig a decent hole). At Chelsea they had ground cover ones, but the bottom flowers do get very nibbled, so I'm not sure how that would work i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/undecided.gif The President Empress, I love the way the flowers change with age. Thanks for the noms Auricula and Jilly. Yes she is Jilly although that flower isn't quite as big as the ones we saw at Chelsea! I'm not complaining - I was just so pleased the one bud I'd spotted opened. I keep checking for S&S damage too!

It's such a shame Jilly - my problem this year isn't S & S but caterpillars...all the trees around are holey and most of my garden...

Jilly I wonder if you get a solution of salt water and paint the stems with it? or if you get any pet hair or human hair drape it around the stems that will stop them for sure but you need at least 2" down each stem. Well here is a close up of the Fireworks Clem I just love this and it gets better each year with little or no cutting back this was £1.49p from Morrisons 2yrs ago and it also gets better each year

About the S&S, don't think I would chance salt water i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/undecided.gif not after seeing the damage a bit of salt can do to some of the tough things out the front. I'm very intrigued by the hair ideal though, between me & the cats it's an unending resource in this house i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/grin.gif . How do you go about attaching it to the stems? OH is also interested in this as he has the same problem with the Runner Beans. Jillyx
