I saw two hoverflies mating today, and got the camera whilst they were still at it Unfortunately the picture must have been too rood and was therefore blurred Have to make do with one on it's own instead

That is a Buff Ermine RF and very beautiful it is too. My offering today is this parasitic wasp - Ichneumon Stramentarius A black ladybird with red 'blobs' and a baby grasshopper

I tried to get a pic of a yellow ladybird yesterday but it was so small it just looked like a blob.

The shield bugs are 'at it' all over the garden, it's going to be a very (re)productive year for them I think

From what I read they feed on any soft plant material but may eat new shoots on some tender plants. As there is only one at the moment I don't think it will do much damage, no worse than shield bugs anyway.

You did really well to get pics of the moth andy - I have tried often and ended up with a memory card full of blobs!! Love the Cinnabar Moth - elegant beastie isn't he... RF

Ever since andy posted his photos of the Hummingbird Hawk Moth I have been waiting for mine to come and today one decided to visit...blimey, trying to take pics really is a work of art - I got more blobs than anything but these are recognizable anyway...the little video that I tried to take was one constant blur !! I tried to get a little more detail.... Rf

Thanks both - it is a handsome fellow isn't it and they are big - wingspan is 1 and a half to 2 inches and they do hum - I could hear it..his eyes really do look huge LG and I loved the markings...hope he comes again - I have set another camera up for a video...if I get the chance.. RF

Scorpion Fly RF (panorpa communis) I spotted this one today - think it is a moth rather than a butterfly

Spotted today, must have disturbed it during my clearance work - it was on the 'run' looking for a new home Over 2" long - Buff tip moth caterpillar (phalara bucephala)
