I've been watching the chateau DIY programmes, those people have so much get up and go, and must be making the French government a fortune in tax.

Is anyone watching I'm a celebrity get me out of here? It's in a beautiful old castle in Wales this year and they all seem like a good bunch of contestants. We're enjoying it.

I do love Sara Beenies new show though, she has moved to the country side in Somerset, taken an old farm and is having thousands of trees planted, digging ponds the size of lakes to stop flooding further down, and is after permission to build a new house, her 4 boys are loving it.

Gifted.
I watched this film earlier in the year and I thought it good enough to record. I've watched it again since. It'll bring a tear to your eye...in places.
It's on tonight, Thursday, Film 4, 9.00pm
Here's the trailer.

I "half watched" Kiss Me Kate this morning on BBC2
Made in 1953, starring Howard Keel, Kathryn Grayson and the talented dancer Ann Miller.
Sadly, all long gone now.
But there's still YouTube.
I don't think there was ever a better female dancer in films before her, or has been since.
Here she is in 1938 at the age of fifteen.
Even earlier at fourteen.

I can tap dance doghouseriley, I have the medals to prove it, no jokes about falling in the sink please. I watched cinderella this afternoon it was lovely, some very clever filming when the pumpkin was made into a coach looked really good.

Anyone watching Spiral on BBC4?
It's series 8. I've watched them all, more realistic than many BBC detective dramas. You see Paris I imagine, as it really is.
I'm watching it on i>Player, I'm up to episode 4.
One scene amused me.
I saw a sad looking Laure the female detective wandering the streets of Paris at night with the same look on her face, when her lover and former partner just released from prison fails to turn up to meet her as promised. I was immediately reminded of this and wondered if the director remembered it too.
Here Jean Moreau wanders the streets of Paris when her lover fails to turn up.
I guess using the Miles Davis theme music would have been a bit to much, so they used something else.
It's one of my favourite film noir movies.
You occasionally get "references" in TV dramas.
In an episode of Endeavour where there was a murder at a cinema, they interviewed an attractive blonde usherette, whose name we were told was Betty Perske. That was before the studio changed it, Lauren Bacall's.
