Love this shot andy, Had an appointment at the Park Centre yesterday so popped along afterwards for a quick look, it's all looking fab & the new planting is really taking off now isn't it. I didn't hang around for very long as I was in danger of being blown away so if you were about sorry I didn't come looking for you.

Thank you everyone for your nice comments, the garden is really looking good at the moment even though the bulbs have all finished and the herbaceous is just getting a Chelsea chop !!!!
Bit of news on that new border Jilly. The boss wanted to fill it full of 30,000 bulbs....3 varieties of different Narcissi, early, mid season and late flowering....a little bit like the winter garden at the opposite end.
However, something just didn't click. I asked my volunteers and they agreed...we've already got mass plantings so wanted something different.
So i've come up with.....Tulips!!!!. 6 maybe 7 varieties, all different flowering times, different colours, different heights and different flower types. They'll be planted among the existing herbaceous in groups of 10 per variety and they'll be fairly close together.
We've not sorted varieties out yet, we have until late July to get my final list in to the boss. Until then, i shall tweak away on those wet and windy days and it'll probably be redesigned about a dozen times.
What do you think ?

I think it is a great idea andy, - Preston Rock Gardens own Tulip Festival!! What happens to them afterwards - leave them in and pray that they flower or get them out, replant later or bin them??

I leave them in and let them die down naturally RF among the herbaceous and hope they flower next year.

Ah so you would like to know which one do come back every year.
The wild ones are perfect but of course small compared to the bog standard ones. The funny thing is I once planted Rembrandts favourite. A white with purple striping one. I fully expected it to disappear but that is the only one that has come back completely every year so far. I had a frilly orange... I had a white big one.... I had queen of night...... etc.
Maybe we should get a thread on large tulips that do good every year without digging them up.

Wow looking fab Andy. Beautiful Actinidia and the blue flowered tree tip of tongue but name went as soon as I wanted to write it down so do help me out here. How old is that one? At the entrance to the Buitenzorg allotments Amsterdam north ( in 2017 the allotments will be 100 years old ) there are two trees also in full flower. I love them.

They are fab trees Andy. The ones at Buitenzorg are older so you have a good many years in yours yet.
Paulownia t. it is, thank you for reminding me.
Did you see the BBC diy program with Allan Titchmars discovering one in a garden over the road? The poor man nearly wetted himself with pleasure. These trees bring out the worst and the best in gardeners and none gardeners. A non gardening friend of mine stood drooling under one of the afore mentioned ones. She said looking up through the canopy was like finding another sky in another dimension. ( nah she is not religious )

I saw that you had posted the other day and just didn't have the time to look so I have just grabbed a coffee and enjoyed a lovely few minutes... Everything is looking marvellous as usual andy, - I do so wish I was nearer and could stroll around whenever I felt like it...I even know where I would sit as well!! Of course I found my favourite shot - well, nearly, you have taken it from a different angle - I love it.... Thanks for sharing..

Oh that's fun andy, - I love these - they tweak the original without actually changing the pics... " style="max-width:100%;"] " style="max-width:100%;"] Love them andy, I think the middle one would make a particularly tasteful Christmas card.

More beautiful photos. I really must visit one day. I especially like these " style="max-width:100%;"] (just in case the links don't work (numbers 52, 67 and 48) .. is it a persicaria with rudbeckia? Whatever it is, I love the combination. Very vibrant and I think works really well
