What's nice about them, as well as being such a bright and cheery colour is that they are quite short. They survived well in the playground unlike some of the taller tulips which get beheaded by passing footballs!

Still no ladybirds in my garden but I have seen some greenfly nibbling the rose leaves. Here are a few spring flowers from me. These I grew from seed and overwintered in the ground outside. What a striking colour Ladygardener! from me! The wallflower is pretty too. Do your Red Riding Hoods come up every year? I planted some in the school garden but if they do come back we will be missing them.
from me We've got loads of ladybirds and bees already this year

Thanks very much Auricula. I think all the ladybirds in my area have gone to my neighbours gardens. I did remove one yesterday and bring it down to my garden and found another one inside my T. shirt which flew away.

I've heard it all now, ladybird smuggling.... naughty Ladygardener . Love the Calendula, I've got a few self seeded from last year in various places, but I did buy a cheap pack at the GC the other week & have a bit of a scatter to keep the numbers up.

Well I saw one today on the Stock, not sure if it's the same one but I was pleased to see it anyhow. I've some seedlings on the go for this year and usually put some at the allotment too.

Thank you Ladygardener I think we may have trouble with the size of that tree in years to come but it is so pretty at this time of the year.

Can't you lope some of it off when it has finished at the end of summer Jasmine? or is it too big now.

Thank you for the nom theinsidegardener! I know what you mean - there are so many really stunning trees and not enough garden space! We need land!

I agree, we need land... lots & lots of land , beautiful blossom against the blue sky Jasmine, I love the way the buds are dark pink but the flowers are white.

I love that too Jilly, so idyllic. Well after raving about the local council doing a great job in town (and more evidence..) This just looks like nothing in comparison. I think it might be a wild flower bed and if so it'll be lovely in a few weeks, but at the minute it just looks sad.

It's great to see them making a good effort theinsidegardener. They've obviously given it a lot of thought. I think you could be right about the wild flower bed. Hopefully you can get another pic in June or so and let us see how it looks then. Most of ours around here are just cut grass with the odd shrub thrown in.

I really like how your roundabouts are named theinsidegardener! How helpful is that! It will be interesting to see that third roundabout in a couple of months time. Thanks for the nom Jilly. The colour change is lovely to watch. Our 2 new crab apples which are supposed to have white blossom and bright pink blossom both have very pale pink buds...that are opening white! Ah well, we obviously weren't meant to have the bright pink one!

It looks like that last roundabout will be wild flowers theinsidegardener, I can't imagine that they'd plant all the others so well & just leave one. The churchyard where my Dad is buried is planted as a wildflower meadow, yesterday it was just covered in Cowslips

Oh wow, that is so pretty Jilly - it's amazing that they're doing so well amongst the grass - they are obviously tough little things. You are right Auricula - crab apple blossom has a lovely delicate scent!. I should have noticed - they are only tiny little things at the moment!

It does look very peaceful there Jilly, do they have a little bench?
|
|
|
Post by Jilly on Apr 19, 2014 18:05:23 GMT
Yes they've got several benches theinsidegardener, it's a perfect situation for a wildflower meadow, as there's only a couple of inches of top soil above solid chalk. It's a proper country churchyard, this is the overspill bit, as the churchyard proper is full & it's as you'd imagine a country church yard to be, an old norman church surrounded by lovely old trees, then there's a main road going through, then the bottom yard, which has also got some lovely planting & then this bit further up the hill. Mum just mentioned in passing tonight that next month all the Bee Orchids would be out, like that would be nothing special

These are the last of my Narcissi to open and they've been worth the wait, the smell is wonderful although the flowers themselves are tiny.

Very pretty colour combination Ladygardener. I love how the corner of the drive has turned out. OH planted the vinca - and it does need beating into submission every now and again - and last year a friend at school gave me some honesty seeds and I just scattered them about up there....
Oh, and there's forget-me-nots which seed all over up there too!
