Skarloey
Don't blame me for your seed madness!! ;D
You won't be disappointed by your Pea selection, I grew Hatif d'annonay last year and they were very good - saved some to use as this years seed .....
The seed saving info they send is easy to understand. I'll be very interested in your sweetcorn as I've never bought it from them before.
Now all you need is a plot to grow it all on!!!

Oh right, is that what hybrids mean that you can't get seeds from them? I often wondered when they put "propagation prohibited" on some plants too. How would they know if you've taken cuttings?! Or does that mean they physically won't work. If you save seeds from a hybrid you dont know what youre getting, it wont come true, it may even revert to undesirable characteristics of one parent......... Possibly it would be sterile, not sure about that. When propagation is prohibited it usually means the plant has been copyrighted, not that its impossible to take cuttings, and youre right they wouldnt and dont know

O I often wondered when they put "propagation prohibited" on some plants too. Sweetleaf is correct - It is called Plantbreeder's Rights. This lasts for a number of years and a certain royalty is paid over by a commercial propagator to the breeder. For example on "Surfinia Petunias" this is (I think) 4p per plant. However, so long as you are not selling for commercial gain you are free to take as many cutting as you wish. In early 2006 I purchased 1 white and 1 pink surfinia from your company at 50p per plant. By May after taking cuttings I had dozens. Here are a few of them in balcony containers....

There are absolutely 100's of plants in this category Basically it means that nurseries like ours cannot propogate without permission or without paying huge amounts of money! Fab pics ;D

Ah rightios thank you, just wondered. See, I know I can get an proper answer on here that isn't patronising or condescending. I've not attempted cuttings yet. I've not got enough room for them anyway. Plus I'm only interested in perennials at the moment and trying to grow from seed more so I should have more than enough plants! I've even got plants at my mum and dads I need to sort out a proper home for....

I've ordered my seeds for the plant trials. I've been putting a seed order for work together over the past few days as we are creating a vegetable patch, and will soon be getting a greenhouse (3metres by 7metres). Think there are going to be some long hours put in this summer, but i'm looking forward to it.

and I know Captain Cabbage send me some seeds /quote] You mean the oriental salad ones including pak choi ;D My pak choi I intended growing to maturity rather than salad leaves, but it bolted! I've also grown Mooli (Daikon) - They are BIG! I would only sow these in April or late August personally. The tip I'd give about your oriental veg is that on the whole it is great for sowing in August and onwards, so it can overwinter. That means LP needn't just have a veg area for the Summer, but also harvest on Chrimbo Eve, as we did.

I am going to spend today sorting out my seed tin and to start odering some seeds - did someone say ' about time to!'
I haven't got used to not having to go to work on Tuesdays yet but I am sure I will ;D
My catalogue from the Vernon Geranium nursery arrived yesterday so I can start to spend the £100.00 I won - there are some lovely plants to choose from ;D
I am going to do a Pink,White ,Purple,Lemon and Blue colour scheme in the front garden this year .
In the side garden I am going to keep it simple with the baskets planted up with single varieties of plants - Geraniums probably ;D ;D ;D

My latest seeds - ornamentals - arrived today, also from Mr Fothergills. I had promised myself not to buy any more, given I have rather far too many already. But there was this voice in my head that said "DO IT!"....so I did BTW for those tight fisted folk out there (I can't be the only one surely) Mr Fothergill is doing some lines at 49p a packet. Unfortunately, I have also spotted some gems on the Chiltern seeds website that are starting to get my juices running

Hi Plocket and Chuckles, 1 kg is about 10 - 12 tubers so Plocket is probably looking for 1/2 a kilo or a pound....... or TWO barrels!! ;D Chuckles, the website is www.organiccatalogue.com

Thanks skarloey......I'd like to do about 35ish but mixed varieties of just 1st and 2nd earlies, say 5 of each. T&M do 5's Plocket but I begrudge the postage. I'm getting really mean in my old age . I think I may have to find somewhere local that sells then loose.

Nice site Skarloey but from what I can see the minimum is 2kg - still a bit too much for me.
T&M do packs of 5 tubers: Lady Christl; Mimi; Orla; Rocket and Swift. It's not a cheap way of doing it though!

Sorry Plocket. I was just pointing the site out to Chuckles. They only sell their collections in 1kg of each but you get 4 or 5 types so this won't be any good to you. I was 'chatting' to GH the other day and said it would be nice if somewhere sold 'Pick and Mix' seed potatoes, she said when she won the lottery (assuming she started buying the tickets ) she'd open a small GC and sell pick and mix for me! And I have to say, they are a bit pricey at £15.99 for the collection BUT the postage is only £1.20 unless you spend over £25 then it's free. Chuckles, here's the 'Early Bird' collection: www.organiccatalog.com/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=21_47_124_130&products_id=1143You'll still get over 50 tubers though.
