I have just got my carrier bag of catalogues out ready to have a good browse after lunch. I watched the T.&M. DVD yesterday and it has started me offthinking about what I would like to grow I will grow several sorts of Tomatoes as usual and the green, yellow and purple french beans.I don't think I will grow the yard long beans - very interesting but overall not a good yield. Better go and finish cooking Lunch so I can have a good browse

I really need to know soon, about the trials or Ill end up having to re-arrange the crop rotation, plans are already pretty concrete, beds are dug etc. I have four different types of squash this year, they are going to take up a fair bit of space! Typically me, greedy at the organic stalls at Kings Heath Park show!

I've ordered another Squash, 'Marina di Chioggia' (because it looked interesting, knobbly green skin!!), I did find that some of them were happy this year to climb up the fence and the compost heap. My plan is to see if I can encourage them to grow between my plot and the boundary hedge in an attempt to keep the weeds down abit.

I have 3 full bays of well rotted compost and I plan to make a huge bed by partially burying most of it and building up the sides with scrap timber, maybe there will be enough moisture then for a good crop. Wont the boundary hedge suck the water away from your squash? Or do you have a cunning plan?

Wont the boundary hedge suck the water away from your squash? Or do you have a cunning plan? There's a gap of about 2' between my plot and the boundary hedge, so my plan is to plant the squash on the plot and encourage them toward the hedge and hopefully fill in the gap - does that make sense? I also use a plastic bottle (cut the bottom off) and bury it in the soil next to the plant to make watering easier and I plant squash/courgette in loads of well rotted manure. It's worth a try!!

I have a cunning answer! Maybe you could build a slightly raised bed like Sweetleaf's and plant as near to the hedge as possible so the squashes get first go at any moisture. Dunno if it would work but it would keep the weeds down p'raps. Anyway, ahem, I have already ordered two lots of seeds.........a load of wild flower seeds (primroses, etc) and a few things like Astrantia to overwinter outside to see if they germinate and then a LOVELY selection of praire plants like Sanguisorba officinalis, Rudbeckia, Eryngium etc. I sow loads of seeds as I go round shows selling plants so I wanted to get my personal seed order done otherwise I get very confused.....haven't even thought about my veggie seeds yet. Coo!

Morning SL, yep, they're sitting in my desk in the conservatory in a new ice cream box waiting for me to sort out the jumble of knackered old packets of aging seeds down by the old sofa - didn't want them to get mixed up. I've been gardening! I'm boiling now so I may just do exactly what you say - p'raps start with a Brie and Cranberry sauce sarnie, then the choccie - gotta eat it all before I start my 2007 diet.........! Shall we have a Ladies Day Off?

Hi GH, If you've JUST ordered your seed, where did my chrissie prezzie come from? ;D How many orders HAVE you made in the last month? ;D You are in real danger of OCD me thinks! I did notice though that you made no NO mention of courgette seed. Perhaps you will stay married for at least another year then! ;D I haven't placed an order yet as we still haven't got the allotment. But will be making up for lost time just as soon as we get the go-ahead! I have to say, I'm jolly envious but at least I've still got my little garden plot for my Sprouts and early spuds which can be followed by something later. ;D

I haven't ordered any courgette seeds - thanks for reminding me - so it looks like I'll have to place a third order somewhere along the line ;D

;D ;D ;D ;D
That's it!!! I'm gonna order something... anything.... ;D I'm full of the cold so tomorrow I'm gonna curl up on the sofa and nurse my hangover while pretending my cold is worse than it actually is and have a good old look through some catalogues.
Can I have a list of all your favourite sites and I will go through them all and get a catalogue (I prefer to look at catalogues than web sites) from each one! That should make the long winter evenings just fly by......... ;D

Trunkyjo, the only comment I would make is the tomatoes and suggest being a bit more daring. Have a look at Simpsons seeds who have a great range.
I have ordered all the veg seeds but completely forgot sweet corn - dohhhhhhh.
Picked up the seed pots last Friday - Pink Fir Apple.

Havent decided on my pots I want an early variety, (or two) the lates werent very successful, I think because of the dry summer. Reccomendations please for one or two varieties. I havent tried Pink fir apple, I was told they are quite small though and a good salad pot, have you grown them before, Mick?
