It's funny how many people are saying that they fancy a swim, maybe it should be a swiming pool and not for plants, only kidding ;D Iv'e started collecting them now.(plants I mean) I bought the OG a Gunnera Manicata for his birthday today, will give it to him at lunch time.

In my best French... Cest MAGNIFIQUE DB Mon Dieu what a job you took on. It looks very tempting to have a swim in there, though still a bit too cold.

Thanks Chuckles, finding it difficult on the plants front. I hope to be able to come over for a visit before too long. ;D Do you know if the Downtown store have many waterplants? It's only half an hour from my son's house. Grandchildren have chicken pox at the moment !!

Look great - are you going to have a seating area or leaving it wild around the edge?
How will you fill it over the summer to make up for evaporation....do you have a spring or a well nearby?

Yes ziggywigs, we have a well so will use it. (it ran dry when we started to fill it!). We have also put in drainage for rainwater from the barn roofs. As for the seating area, well I would like it near the bog garden(yet to be done!)
I have to keep saying to myself that Rome wasn't built in a day!

I didn't have that good a look at everything when I was last there DB, I just tend to scan round it's such a big area. Might be an idea to give them a bell. Downtown Garden Centre Telephone: +44 (0) 1476 512333 Not sure what this place is like it looks interesting www.naturescape.co.uk/

Sounds lovely - a bog garden too. How wonderful.
I watched Dan Pearson The Garden: A Year at Home Farm and he built a wonderful pond....the progress was followed week by week and i was gripped. It's something i would always like to have and wondered how folk keep them filled.

Well Chuckles, I think I know where it is!!
I travel from Bourne into Nottingham on the A52 and have seen a "brown sign" for wild flowers. I have always wanted to follow it and see where I end up, when I come over next time it will be on the "to do" list!!
Will go to Downtown anyway, I am in need of some retail therapy and the clothes are bigger in England ;D

Downtown isn't too bad for pond plants. I used it regularly when we lived in Oakham. They don't have a massive collection but what they do have is good and a wide selection. Well done with the pond, btw. It is looking really good. What is the tree in the foreground in the first picture?

Chateux nurf de pap DB....that is fantastic. What are your plans for the pond.....any fish ?....lots of lillies, maybe opening it up to the public for wind surfing or water skiing....somewhere to store the QE2 when not being used....not that i'm jealous or anything

I will be based in Bourne in Lincs but will be going to Nottingham,Derby and Grantham, have Senic will travel ;D Other than DownTown which I can recommend highly, has anyone mentioned Baytree Garden Centre? Trust me, once you have been there, you won't want to go anywhere else. Not brilliant for pond stuff, but when you see the rest, you will forget about that. But then again, I have never been there really for that aspect, so could be doing it a disjustice. Keith

Hiya DB, the trees and pond are looking fab on those photo's. Hope you find the "Brown Sign" place when you come over on Friday. Have a look in this thread gardenworld.proboards103.com/index.cgi?board=chat&action=post&thread=1170752557&page=1 you might find some other useful places to try. Floralands has a fish section but it was just tropical when I last went earlier in the year, seasonal I guess for outdoor pond stuff. Trowel GC used to be pretty good too but not been for a couple of years now so can't say more than that. Enjoy your trip over and don't get too carried away in Boundry Mill buying clothes when you go to Downtown GC, Oh go on then you may aswell while your there it's only across the carpark ;D ;D
