Susie, I just bought the bulb from a GC, and it grew. If you go to the Jacques Amand website, the UK one, they have lots of different kinds. There is a gorgeous pink and white striped one that I adore. And Arisaema griffithii is HUGE. I am definitely sending for one.

I KNOW this isn't a flower but it is nearly black and I'm so excited as I've wanted one for ages and finally got one this year!

I think this should go here! I planted 10 Gladiola Black Jack corms back in March and this is the only one that has come up.

Thank you Plocket! I think I lost the others to a family of mice! I was blaming slugs for munching through the new shoots and OH said he had seen rabbits on the terraced bit of the garden (I have never seen rabbits come that close to the house myself!) but I was sitting having a cup of tea on the patio one evening at the beginning of June and heard a munching noise. Then I saw a mouse busy gnawing through another gladiola stem. It shot off very quickly when I moved!

Eeek the little whatsits! Nine glads? Goodness they must be stuffed mice now. At least one has done beautifully. I wonder if it's worth lifting and planting in a cage of some sort, or is that too much bother for one gladioli?

I'm going to sit with it! ;D I think the mice are history for the moment. The folk 2 doors away keep ponies and I wonder if they put something down in their feed store as we have recently found quite a lot of little expired mice. I don't like mice but I found out a few weeks ago what mouse poison does to them....

I think this should go here! I planted 10 Gladiola Black Jack corms back in March and this is the only one that has come up. It may be the only one Jasmine but it's lovely. It is almost black at the bud end and the ends of each petal, fab colour. I bought a black Agapanthus this year, it will be interesting to see how black that is next year

Thanks Chuckles! I was really pleased with that one flower and I'm going to plant some more darker coloured gladiolas next year. I've not seen a black agapanthus so it will be interesting to see how dark it is when it flowers.
