Hi Rosefan and Fozzie
Well what you have both said certainly makes sense to me - I must admit that as this is the first time that it has happened to one of my Roses, I hadn't thought so much about the difference in temperatures that we have.
Also I don't have HT's except Queen Elizabeth and one other.
The reason that I mentioned roots was that I went over to the neighbours garden and found that his ivy has got very bad and directly next to some of my Roses - well a fence is in between but that won't stop Ivy. However as you say Rosefan if the plant is healthy then the roots should be OK, although I wouldn't be surprised at some kind of root strangulation in the future.
I have pruned back very hard this time so at the moment nothing is showing but I will keep an eye on it.
Thanks for the tips and although I mound up all my roses for winter and also my standards are totally covered in fleece I never thought so much of the temperature difference in Spring.

I went to a rather tatty GC today and wasn't at all impressed with the plants except for this UTTERLY GORGEOUS little rose with pale green flowers. It wasn't named and I couldn't find anyone who knew anything about it so I'm hoping someone here can help....It was small leaved and the flowers were almost Chintz like. It was £9 so I didn't buy it but I wish I had......PLEASE can someone tell what it was and where I can get it online....(or I'll have to drive back there...)

Hi 4P I was so hoping that someone else would answer this but I think they are having the same problems as I am. There is only one rose that I know that is green and that is the miniature rose "Green Ice". There are others as far as I know. However I do not know anything about it - only the name. Is this it? RF

Thanks Fozzie - the Green Diamond looks more like it - the petals were tightly furled on the one I saw but the colour is quite similar. I asked at another GC today but the expert said he thought green flowers on a rose were an abomination! Obviously not the right man to approach.......my rose was very subtle and beautiful, not at all an abomination! I shall go and google now. Cheers!

I'm looking for suggestions for a white climbing rose to plant along side a "smoke" bush. the aspect is full sun and the area I want to cover is a 6' high hit and miss fence with spread/cover approx 12 '. I should also say that I don't want something that is fussy to look after, just something that will get on with it, with little intervention. Any ideas?

OH & I had a day out on Tuesday. We went to Wyevale first & got some things we needed. I thought we would have some lunch there but OH said we were going to Tatton Park & we could have lunch there before going round the gardens. We had a lovely time & the rhododendrons were beautiful. I thought here is my chance. I said while we are in the area can we call at Fryers GC to pick up Rhapsody in Blue. All in all a lovely day. I just need to get Black Baccara now. Janet.

GrannyJ, do you go to that GC on Tuesdays for the same reason I do? This I like as a substitute to most of the modern "blues" Reine des Violettes how about this as a sub for your Black Baccara called Black Prince They are both Hybrid Perpetuals , I am not suggesting you change, these are the ones I would choose. Rosefriend, I seem to have ignored your post - I'm so sorry! I was so intent on finding the rose name I just zoomed in on the pictures - didn't mean to be rude! I had a good google yesterday and I don't think either Green Ice or Green Diamond are quite right - the leaves on the former are the right size but the colour of the second is more accurate. When I get a minute I may have to ring the nursery and see if they'll save me a plant if there are any left. Thanks for answering anyway. Cheers!

Hi 4P ‘Green Ice’ and Green Diamond’ are miniature roses bred by Ralph Moore in USA. I don’t know if they are commercially available in Europe!! There is another miniature rose bred by Kordes (Germany) - ‘Pepermint’ which is described as having cream green flowers. Here it is As far as I know the so called Kordana potroses are marketed by Rosa Danica. ‘Greensleeves’ is a floribunda bred by Harkness in UK and can be bought at Peater Beales. They say it is a chartreuse-green, semi-double rose even if in their photo the colour is somewhat different. But the colour depends on the enviromental conditions. www.classicroses.co.uk/roses/g/greensleeves.htmlActually how big was the rose ? How big were the flowers? The miniature roses usually are sold as 3 or 4 little plants in one pot. I hope you will have the rose and that someone will be able to identify it, as the green colour is quite unusual for a rose. Hi Rosefan, I REALLY wish I'd bought this rose - it's beginning to wind me up now! The plant was quite small, only 30cms high I would guess, with very small dark green leaves and the flowers were only about 5/6cms across - fairly flat with their centre petals tucked inwards. I'm fairly sure there was only one plant in the pot. The colour could best be described as a pale green with creamy and palest pink tints - it was soooo pretty! I can't find anything quite like it anywhere.......what excuse can I find for a 50 mile round trip to go get it....?

Try this for something diffent it should go well with your Smoke Bush colouring Maigold Fxx

4Pygmies, it seems that your rose is a miniature/patio but I cant think about which one can be. Maybe you will go back for it and if they dont know what is the name, perhaps can tell from where have it. Jlottie, I have 'New Dawn', which is a really good rambler. It has soft pale china pink, fragrant flowers and dark glossy small leaves. It is fast growing, winter resistent and very disease resistent. It needs little care just training and cutting the spent flowers. Here is a photo at my office, the rose is in it's third year I think.

Hi Fozzie. If you mean 10o/o off + a free coffee, then yes. Thanks for your kind suggestions. The reason I want the black baccara is because it was in 2 of our daughters wedding bouquets & several people on this site have grown rhapsody in blue & really love it. I will bear your blue suggestion when my RiB has flowered. Janet.

WOW 4P it is stunning and very healthy looking too. Pot looks quite small to me but I'm sure the rosey trio will be able to tell you what best to do with it. So glad you went and got it, you'd have regretted it if you hadn't Were you very good and only bought the rose ;D

No, I'm quite sure you're right RF - I didn't think it sounded like a name! I can't get the link to work I'm afraid. My photos aren't very good so you can't see the lovely subtle shades of pink under each bloom. And the petals are wonderfully like old fragile faded hand made paper. Um, wasn't THAT good Chuckles...also bought 2 Phygelus (one pink, one cream), a Tradescantia and 2 variegated Schrophularia - a vile name for a nice looking plant but one which appeals to me!

Hi 4P. It probably won't bother you as I think you have a large garden but the phygelius will spread a lot with runners. I had one & it was a b****r to dig up as it was coming up through other plants in the border. Janet.

To ALL Regarding missing pics. Apologies had yet another senior moment managed to delete all my pics. Its easy when you do not have a clue what your doing. Promise not to touch delete button again. For years I've been blaming William Gates Esq, perhaps I should have looked closer to home.
