This is a smashing pic Rosefriend. Wonderful blue sky behind the red berries and the almost translucent leaves.

That's a real show stopper Rosefriend. Mine like Jilly is dropping it's leaves but not turning a nice colour. I'm not sure if it's ment to or not.

How stunning is that acer Rosefriend, the colour is so vibrant and cheery. Normally at this time of year I look out and see the wonderful leaves on the shed roof and back wall of the garden, but OH was so helpful in taking it all off a few months ago that there's no colour there now. Honestly, he wouldn't have done it if I'd wanted him too ...

Mmmh might have been a little iffy if my OH has pulled a stunt like that..think he knows better after all these years...if I remember rightly the first stunt he ever pulled was to dig a hole, find some daff bulbs and not knowing what they were threw them over the fence to the neighbour...where they flowered beautifully... for years!!!!!!!!!!

hahaha, Rosefriend, my Oh found lots of bulbs in the shed and went and planted them all around the estate!! Not one in the garden planted by him this year, but when I say "oh, I don't remember planting that" he will say it was probably him .

At least that way everyone will get the benifit of them theinsidegardener. I would'nt be surprised if the vine came back again after a year or so, he may not have gotten all the roots.

It's been a while since anyone posted on this thread so I thought I'd add this pic I took this morning. Hydrangea Paniculata Grandiflora and Limelight, grown beside each other in large containers. They're a few years old now but I don't remember the leaves being such a smashing colour last year.

Lovely Ladygardener, Do you dry the flower heads for indoors too, I cut mine & put them in a vase without water and they last ages.

Thanks Jilly, I did that with some of the flower heads last year but this year I just left them to enjoy in the garden as I'm loving the colours against the leaves. I noticed this morning that my Prunis is changing colour too, I'll try to get a pic over the next few days.

Yes they are lovely Barbara but look how sparce they are already! It will be bare before you know it. I've been out and about as Jenny is here and have seen so many trees with glorious autumn colours, I almost bought Sorbus Olympic Flame but realise I don't have room to grow it unfortunately. I've always admired the Sorbus trees.

Yes so true. Some grasses too are good for autumnal colour and a load of shrubs come in as well. Amsonia is usually bought for the bright blue flowers but the autum colours on that can be fantastic too. In short in our temperate climate loads of things change colour for Winter. I mean check out your fingers. They get a lovely shade of blue these days......

Amsonia's a nice plant, I particularly like the red Autumn leaves of the oakleaf hydrangea.
