Perhaps it's not formally set up as a website yet Jasmine.

No, he'd just had a stand at a couple of flower shows from the looks of things.

No I don't either and I was just starting to get used to him. I was'nt a big fan of his but fair's fair and I'm sure he had at the very least the expectation of a few years work for GW.

I loved the featured garden in AG this week and the lady who owns it gave up work and now she runs a nursery from a bit along side the house - what a dream! She also had to wait til her 3 boys grew up and left home before she was allowed to include the footie pitch in her planting scheme! ;D

That sounds like a lovely story, good for her for going for it.

I read that too Jas, one of my favourite gardens of recent times I'd love to do that - and, I have just counted and I have over 400 cuttings already ;D ;D

I loved that white Galega, orange alstreoemeria and purple something or other combination in the first big pic! 400 cuttings sounds almost like a possible nursery Auricula! ;D What are you going to do with 400 cuttings

You should do a Boot Sale and sell some of your plants.

It depends if any survive the winter....if they do I'll have options.........and....lots of "teenage" penstemons to send around the country ( by which time they'll definitely survive and flower like Juicy Grape) ;D

It's just getting them past that little plug plant sized stage isn't it?

Yes, they're so fussy until they're established The magazines are still saying to take cuttings now, but some say tip cuttings and some say semi hardwood cuttings..................what's a girl to do??

I think spring has got to best really - just to give the poor little things a chance. I'd also stick with tip cuttings, or I'd cut a stem up til I'd used all the green stem and stop once I got to the woody stuff.

I find they get too hot in the spring and shrivel up In my book it says 4" cuttings, but I think I'll try some tip ones as well, thanks Jas

I thought Carol K's article in GN had a bit of sad note in it this week as her nursery seemed to finally close

Yes but hope as well Jasmine and she did say she had lots of support and volunteers to help. It must be really difficult for her but she comes across as a bit of a warrior woman so I'm sure she'll bounce back. Things do happen for a reason and she'll have new opportunities now I hope.

I'm hope so too LG - I felt for her and her poor squashed plants were they'd been squashed with the moving of heavy stuff from the nursery. I wonder if her neighbours read GN

I was reading about Carol's nursery in Amateur Gardening last night. They'd found the sternest pic of Carol and used words like acrimonious Can't imagine wanting to fall out with CK myself but we don't know the full story so it's hard to say.

Well that's it, there's always 2 sides to everything Jasmine. Perhaps this will be a good thing for her now. She's certainly not without plans.

No, and it's no good being dependent on someone else's goodwill for your business space, that and leases are a potential recipe for disaster.

There's an interesting article on alstroemerias in the gardening section of The Telegraph this w/e. Part of it reminded me of something Auricula said about the dwarf alstroes - Val Bourne isn't keen on them either and not so restrained in what she says... '...I have an aversion to low pouffes. I like height, flow and form'. There's some good advice about how to care for them and how to try and get them through their first winter, also different companies that sell them but Viv is top of the list!
