I looked in our local Morrisons today at what gardening magazines they had, poor selection really Gardeners World, Garden Answers and Amatuer Gardener thought I might find something different.

That isn't much of a choice is it Chuckles I'm going to check out some American gardening mags while I'm on holiday and see what they have to offer.

They were hideously expensive when I looked. All glossy like Gardener's World but very thin and around $8 (£6)

I've been catching up with the mags that came while we were away and I liked Frank Ronan's article at the end of Gardens Illustrated. It's about gardening new years resolutions and he said on a sunny day he'll get on with some of his writing so that he can get out in the garden afterwards with a clear conscience. Then it rains! It happens to him a lot apparently even though he is aware that we live in a temperate climate and the weather isn't the same from one block of 2 hours to the next. He's decided to put a sign above the kettle... SUNSHINE IS TEMPORARY, PICK UP THE TROWEL AND GO OUTSIDE NOW! I liked that! i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/cheesy.gif

I bought Garden News this morning - it's a sort of newspaper gardening mag. It's front cover looks interesting and there are 20 free snowdrops for every reader...so I had to get it! ;D

OH bought it for me yesterday, Jas - BEWARE! The p&p is high, so the snowdrops aren't as much of a bargain as we thought.

My next bit will be in the week after next Jasmine I have been a regular reader for about 30 years ! The paper has a forum and when they asked for people from different areas of the country to write and send a couple of photos of what is going on in their gardens I volunteered and was asked if I would like to do it. It is good fun :)Interesting, too - to see how different parts of the country vary in their gardening year.It is called the 'Your Gardens 'section

What an interesting thing to be involved with Isabella. I've had a quick flick through - couldn't see you but now I understand - your garden will feature every few weeks (is that right?). I like the look of it - could have found a new weekly read! ;D

Every 4 weeks Jasmine I have to send my next bit in by Jan17th - I will struggle a little bit at this time of year

Even the glossy mags are a little bit thinner at this time of the year and rely on frosty photos of beautiful topiary. Except the RHS mag - it doesn't seem to deal only with the current season.

How very interesting it all is is'nt it. I seem to remember you having an article on this board from one of the magazines or perhapsit was a newspaper Isabella or am I wrong?

Are you remembering Isabella's garden being in the summer special Woman's Own or some such magazine LG. I remember going out and finding a copy so I could read the write up but I can't remember whether it was Woman or Woman's own or even something else entirely.

I quite enjoyed Garden News - there wasn't a huge amount in it but then there's not much to say at this time of the year I guess. I'm going to send off for the snowdrops.

My Amateur Gardening should be delivered this lunchtime ( we rarely get our post before 1pm : Along with Carol's programme, that should galvanise me into at least thinking about going outside. It's just when I get out there that I see the mess and lose the will to live
