Gardening Which was here when I got home, I'll try to get it read & off on it's travels asap as they're reviewing Penstamons this month, not that it'll make any difference, we'll probably all buy the ones we fancy anyway, probably just end up discovering new ones to acquire

I figure that if I buy all that I can, I can't go wrong - a good rule and I find I stick to it quite easily

Auricula what are you like. I'm looking forward to hearing how you get on with your visitor, is it June or July? Jilly thanks very much for The English Garden and my Tithonia seeds which arrived just now. I'll have to get sowing later on.

In the Gardening section of yesterday's Telegraph there's an article by Christopher Bradley-Hole on his Chelsea garden. What stress they must all be under because of the weather. His Crocus plants aren't ready and some of them are having to have special warming treatment to get them going but the size of Crocus' facilities mean there isn't room for all the plants to be treated at the same time, and his stone for his ponds is on a cargo ship in The Suez Canal - should have bought British there I think!

Oh dear I imagine their stress levels are through the roof Jasmine . I would'nt like to be in their shoes but the end result is smashing for the most part.

I was thinking the same Ladygardener, last year everything was ready too quickly and the gardens all still looked spectacular!

Thanks Jilly - Gardening Which was here when I got home. I'm looking forward to reading about penstemons!!! You were right Jilly. I think that's the best Gardening Which I've read so far. Loved Bob Brown's article - always thought he looked a little austere but with his 'superbum' sense of humour he's obviously quite a laugh! Loved Alexis Datta's Plant combination of the month too - Wisteria floribunda and Clematis Wada's Primrose - stunning.

It was absolutely beautiful wasn't it Jasmine, pity I've not got room for a Wisteria... or in fact another Clematis

I'm trying to think where a pagoda could go! I'm looking forward to next month's too - how to treat/prevent black spot and keep roses healthy and there's going to be an article on small ponds. I'd like a big pond but OH doesn't want a pond at all so I feel a compromise coming on!

We had a small pond for quite a few years Jasmine, just a warning, they're a nightmare to keep clear. Apparently the goldfish liked it though as I ended up taking a dustbin full (in water) down to the pond shop for rehoming when we eventually filled it it. I only started with 4

I was going to rely on barley straw Jilly although I thought I'd read somewhere that they were thinking of banning the sale of it

You did, in The Garden, I was reading it last night , honestly what are they going to try to ban next. Also, as I think the article said, how would they ? It'll probably be like using washing up liquid to kill aphids, everybody knows it works, but if you're a magazine writer or TV presenter, you're just not allowed to say so. Stupid, stupid, stupid

I agree Jasmine Jilly I was reading about it recently too. I do notice too that although Jeyes fluid is'nt allowed to be marketed for the garden it is still stocked right beside all the other garden fluids in B&Q.

It's very strange all round really isn't it? You could understand with anything that is proven to be harming the environment or wildlife but otherwise.... I will get Gardening Which off to you tomorrow Ladygardener! I have double checked the address!

Cheers Jasmine. I'm just reading Garden Answers it came the other day, then I'll post it on to Jilly . The small garden sections in The English Garden were lovely I thought. Of course, no matter what style I see, I like the country cottage look best.

I like it when they do small gardens...it's far more realistic for most of us than park sized places!
