I've not grown Leucanthemum before Ladygardener the pale lemon ones that I grew were Argyranthemum (the way they change names they could well be the same thing, well they certainly look the same ). Anyway, I would certainly go for a large pot to start with, if nothing else, it makes it easier to bring them in come Winter. Actually what I do is take out the shoot tips & root them asap & bring those in to over winter. For one thing it's easier and second although you can keep them overwinter they tend to come back a very odd shape.

Thanks for the hints Jilly I always get the two mixed up, I don't think there's much of a difference in them anyhow. I was well pleased with the plants that arrived today. I've potted them up into good sized pots and will grow them on out in the covered back for a few weeks before potting them on into a big pot for the summer I think.

I liked the look of that too Ladygardener. I bought one I'd not heard of recently - philadelphus lemoine (I think I've spelled it right). Jilly - will get GI off to you today. It's all about 100 years of Chelsea just to make us feel bad about not going this year!

I've just put Garden Answers in the post to you too, think there's a few bits about Chelsea in there too , mind you if the weather was like today, it might be just as well we're not going , think we got very, very lucky last year.

Seems like most if not all of the magazines have something about 100 years of Chelsea this month. My Philadelphus will bloom this year or it will be dug out, it's on it's last chance.

That should sort it out Ladygardener! We were so lucky weren't we Jilly - I think it was the only hot day of the whole summer last year

Thanks for English Garden Auricula, which arrived just now, I'll get GI in the post this week, it's a particularly lovely issue this month, with some beautiful gardens. Very interesting article on Aquilegias, it was talking about chocolate soldier & saying that they get lost in the border & to grow them in pots, so I've just been round this morning & dug them all up & potted them up, I only planted them out 2 weeks ago

I do love Aquilegias and look forward to seeing them bloom every year. It does make sense to have the Chocolate Soldiers in pots as they're so very delicate looking. I think they'd get swamped in the amount of foliage the plants in my borders produce too Jilly .

I really can't imagine. Ladygardener, I've just remembered, when Auricula sends you GI look out for a pollinator pot planted with just Bill Wallis & Erigeron, it's so lovely, I think I'll give it a go. Luckily the last lot of Bill Wallis seeds that you sent have germinated really well, the plant you sent me last year has just started to flower, think it's so sweet.

I don't think Auricula sends me anything Jilly I think it's just you and Jasmine or am I wrong. So glad that Bill Wallis did well for you, I just took a pic of mine yesterday or today as well, it's just starting to flower. It looks even better when it's covered in flowers all summer.

Sorry Ladygardener my mistake, I get a bit confused about who sends what to who sometimes, I'm sure one day I'm going to send someone something they sent out in the first place

I liked that combination too Jilly - what else was with it? I've got some 'spare' erigeron and there must be some Bill Wallis babies about in the borders!

It was just the 2 plants mingled together Jasmine, exactly how many spare erigeron have you got ? My Bill Wallis are all babies though, apart from the original that Ladygardener sent me, that has just started to flower in the border, pretty little thing that he is. It'll definitely be a plan for next year though.

Jilly it'll grow like blazes and next year will be really big don't worry. Insted of letting it grow as it does in a spreading along the border way, this year I've grown mine through one of those circular supports with the holes in the middle so it's growing up instead. So far it has completly covered the support and is growing up with lots and lots of bunches of what look like grapes but I know they're flowers. The Erigeron would be lovely growing through it.
