Thought I'd share todays trauma - looked out the window this morning and saw the blanket of frost across the garden and also spotted the sad state of my crown fritilliaries Despondent I went to take a 'parting' shot of them As the morning sun got going I was able to take this unusual view of the inside of the flowers on the red one Better than nothing I thought, at least they've tried to do their thing. Just before lunchtime I was amazed to see that they had both almost 'righted' themselves I don't know how many freezing nights they can cope with, but at least I have them back for now Tig

Thanks Jilly! The heuchera is Berry Smoothie - I didn't have it last spring so I didn't realise what colour the leaves started off. It's certainly eye catching! ;D

Popped into Trengwainton, our local NT Garden this morning. I love their tulip display It is one bed, surrounded by low box hedging and it is within a walled garden. Wow, those are stunning. I especially like this picture

We were talking in Jasmine's garden thread about replanted Tulips that have been used in pot displays coming back if you plant them out instead of throwing them away. Here's a few of the ones that I've got popping up around the garden, some of them taken a couple of years or so to flower properly again, the first year they usually just make leaves & I only expect about 50% or so to make it. White Parrot Shirley & Hamilton, both of these have done really well, they are only last years. The Hamilton especially, I planted out 10 & 10 have flowered i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/cool.gif And then I get odd ones coming up that I don't even remember planting. This group is getting bigger & I was worried at first that the new ones had a virus due to the stripy petals, but they look as healthy as last year so perhaps it just a colour break i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/undecided.gif very pretty though. I think I'll plant mine out in a bed at the allotment and see what happens. I don't have room in the garden for them.

That is a gorgeous colour combination Jilly and it's great to see your tulips doing so well. I threw all mine (except the Apricot Parrot) over the fence last year and I could kick myself now! i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/rolleyes.gif Auricula - love the tulip pics you posted. I'd have done a POTM 5 for the one that got the noms - it was beautiful!

Thanks for the noms i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/smiley.gif , Jasmine, that colour combination was a pure accident, can't remember planting that Tulip & it's just the one that's that colour. LG, I think planting your's at the allotment is a great idea, I'd probably have more success if I had a dedicated bit of space to plant the old bulbs, instead of them taking their chances straight away. It was my allotment tulips (I planted them last year to cut for the house) that also got me thinking about not chucking out tulips - they have come up this year really strong and at least double the amount I had last year! I think this annual tulip thing is put about my the bulb companies!!! ;D

Thanks Jas, and thanks Jilly for the tip about keeping tulips, I'll try it this year although mine tend to rot over our wet winters
