Doubt it Ladygardener - it is fluttering around on the grass now but I don't think it can fly... RF

Oh dear what a shame Rosefriend. I had a butterfly who got his wing hurt when I was trying to get him out of the growhouse where he seemed to be trapped. I gave him a drink of sugar and water to give him some strength but in the end he died anyhow.

I have just watered a bit and put him on a plant that has some water on the leaves - he was in danger of being trod on where he was. I don't think that he has much chance really. RF

Looks like something has taken a bite out of its wing! Not the best time of year to spot butterflies, but ... this comma was taking in some rays today on the flagpole

They're very pretty flowers Tig, don't think I know arbutus unedo. Here's a couple, of the loads that were sunning themselves on the Ivy on Friday, they all hang about on the Ivy flowers that a really high up, so any shots I get of them are more by luck than judgement

My ivy ( which shouldn't be there ) was full of butterflies and lots of buzzing things yesterday afternoon. I quite like ivy flowers

Every magazine I've read talks about the benifits of growing Ivy for wildlife as well as for a pretty cover. You've tons of flowers there Jilly, well caught.

This is a thought process after seeing a post on FB - has anyone tried to feed our Butterflies and if so with what?? RF Yes I have after being at the butterfly farm last year with Jenny and the girls Rosefriend. They had dissolved sugar on little saucers/plates with bits of sponges in the middle of them for the butterflys to stop and drink from. I've done it as well last year but I've not seen any stopping for a drink. Another thing they did was pull out segments of oranges and leave them sitting as well, the butterflys all went for them.

I think I may have a go, just for fun - a bit later on in the year...it would be interesting to see if other varieties came around!! Mind you - wouldn't the wasps be there as well?? RF

That's an interesting point Rosefriend, best put it somewhere out of the way but where you can see it. I have been known to put honey out for bees who seem to be in difficulty, you know when they for one reason or another just seem to crawl along the gound in a lethargic way.
