We've had oodles of butterflies in the garden this last week - wonderful, only they won't sit still to have their photos taken. There were four Peacocks on the Inulas which seem to be very popular. I managed to get a shot of one! Great shot Geranium well done. Thanks Tig it was a small area but worth a visit.

Well caught Rosefriend, I never see them here. Perhaps a little child tried to catch that one at the end.

They've been flapping about here too! I saw a Comma the other day but it was too flitty, this one was much more obliging, they do love the echinaceas the bee didn't seem to bother it at all and I think this is a Meadow brown female and yet more peacocks with bee companion

Probably been one of the best years i've ever known for butterflies.
Down on the allotment, the amount of large (cabbage) whites is astounding...absolutely hundreds of them.
At work, today ive seen a painted lady, a comma, lots of large whites, lots of meadow browns, peacock, common blues and a few others i can't name.
Anyone else notice the same ?

We were told that it was a rotten year for butterflies and moths a couple of months ago - the winter was too cold, too long etc etc and look now...wonderful !!

You are so lucky to catch a glimpse of a swallowtail Andy - got any Milk Parsley growing nearby? Wouldn't it be great if they bred locally!

I've not seen one of those for years Andy - when we lived in South Devon over 40 years ago! Can't wait to see if you spot anything else - a large tortoiseshell would be an excellent sighting :-)

Few more from today Meadow brown on choisya this little beast...no more than 2cm is a mint moth and feeds on herbs. The Rudbeckia was right next to some Monarda so that could be why it's there. Speckled wood Peacock Comma

Love the slow worms Andy, it's years since I've seen them, used to be loads when we lived in Devon.
I had a first sighting of a Painted Lady last week Geranium, they are very late this year.

Were getting loads of those andy and they are too big and fat for me... Bit of an accident this morning - just done the prime coat on our window shutters and went to the front to do theclips, came back and a poor butterfly had landed on the paint and stuck...had a right job to get him off and he made a mess...not to worry.. However the little thing is still fighting to live, even if he is a bit worse for wear but he managed to get his wings apart again - even the tips of his antenna are white !! Think he now has a white bum as well.. RF
