I've seen hardly any butterflies this year despite having Buddlia and VB in flower since early summer but I managed to catch this one yesterday.

This pic is a probable POTM winnrer is not a POTY winner - fanatstic Ladygardener, just love the Sunflowers in the background and the Verbena at the front, - not to mention the butterfly, it's great - well done you !!! Thanks very much indeed Rosefriend, Jilly, I was on the phone to theinsidegardener at the time and she was telling me about her pics so I just got my camera out too. I followed it around the garden to get that pic. Out of the corner of my eye I could see the neighbours watching and i'm sure they were thinking "what is she up to now "

Great shot theinsidegardener, - love the way the sun is on the daff and I bet that Tig or owdboggy knows what kind of Butterfly/Moth that is...

Thanks Rosefriend. I've seen a few butterflies now, as well as this guy who looks like a moth to me. I love the blue sky in the background, we don't see it often enough so I'm a bit snap happy at the minute!

theinsidegardener, that's a stunning pic, well done. I'm sure you've something to do with the extra number of Butterflies and Bees you've got coming to visit this year.

I can't find a thread on moths so I'm putting this in here. I think he's hiding from the bats.

I have enlarged the pic and what is that bit above - I thought it was a bit of wood but it also looks as though it has two legs - what do you think??

Beautiful pics Tig! No pics but there was a right old buzzing, furious commotion going on in the grass and I thought it was 2 hornets battling it out but one hornet flew off and the other 'hornet' started dashing around among the penstemons - it was a Hummingbird Hawk Moth - what a beauty - they don't seem to settle - they must have very long tongues!

I've seen a couple but they are far too quick for me to get a photo, I did get a video once though, but OH could be heard doing a running commentary on how I should hold the camera, how close I should get, etc, etc, etc ... and my camera records sound regardless so it spoilt it. I spotted this Silver Y moth today, it nearly got caught in one of the spiders webs!

Missredhead, Ladygardener, Jilly, theinsidegardener, Jasmine, Ron, Barbara, Tig, Just been to open the GH's and at the back of the shed I saw what I first thought was a dried leaf (didnt have my glasses on!!) and I went to move it and realised that a) it wasn't a leaf and b) it didn't want to move. No idea what it is - it's huge - hope it doesn't leave eggs - last thing I need is caterpillars everywhere.. Has anyone an idea what it is - I have never seen anything like it and a quick Google hasn't enlightened me much..
