Whats everyone doing in thier baskets this year. I've not really given it that much thought yet really so it would be good to get ideas. I see Auricula has already started hers. Last year I did quite a few bits from cuttings and that worked really well, helped save a few pennies and I did Lobelia from seed, have some seed in GH atm but nothing showing yet gardenworld.proboards103.com/index.cgi?board=2008trials&action=display&thread=5191Last years trailing variageted Nepeta has survived in a couple of the baskets I hadn't emptied so I'm going to give that some tlc and use it again (cheap skate) ;D I took some out of the other baskets at the end of last year and potted it up and thats growing nicely I'll definately be looking for plants that I can do cutting from again. Have bought some of those coco fibre liners from Wilkos for this year.

I have indeed begun my fuchsia baskets ( about half a dozen ) but I haven't yet decided what to put in about another 4 which I will do. Any suggestions for something easily obtainable but a bit different would be appreciated - the baskets are not very large (12" or 14" ) and will be in the sun

I'm going to have baskets of scaevola as well RF after discovering them last year - it wasn't until about August/September that I first saw them and the plants I bought at the time haven't made it through the winter but I have 4 little babies in the greenhouse all ready for when it gets warmer!

Marvellous Jasmine - what colour are they??
For some reason I would love to have one of the dark purple ones with a couple of white ones...or a white and two purple...or a purple, white and a pink one....mmmh!!

I've got dark purple RF. Thankfully (I think) there was only a choice of 2 colours - the dark purple or zig-zag which is purple and white stripe. I do like the sound of pink and/or white and the pale purple is pretty too.....

It's difficult isn't it - I thought the pink was a little insipid until I saw the ones in the photo that I took....I think you have to have at least 2 plants, if not three.
Oddly enough I don't like the zig-zag one - not sure that I could tell you why though.

I wasn't over keen on zig-zag RF but I know why - I'm not keen on stripey flowers.

So far I have made up the 4 fuchsia baskets for the basket tree,2 wall baskets with brachycombe at the bottom and fuchsias in the top. Ihave 2 more baskets of fuchsias to make up for the side garden where I will use Apricot shade begonias in the window box. I will be using white trailing begonias in 3 more wall baskets, fuchsias in another 3. The 4 baskets on the front wall will have fuchsias brachycombe, plectranthus, trailing geraniums, busy lizzies and petunias. The 2 large baskets will have fuchsias, begonias, brachycombe, felicias, scaveola, petunias, busy lizzies, sanvitalia and convolvulus and anything else that takes my fancy! The 2 window boxes under the large baskets will have fuchsias, brachycombe, busy lizzies, felicia and trailing geraniums. There will be 2 busy lizzie flower pouches on the side walls. The 2 window boxes in the back garden will either be just trailing geraniums or a mizture - haven't made my mind up yet! All I have to do then is sort out the other 2 hanging baskets and the other 8 wall baskets! In the 3 tiered stand I will be growing fuchsias, brachycombe, busy lizzies, million bells and lobelia.

I don't have to buy all the plants ;D
I have my cuttings of Plectranthus Sanvitalia Tr.Geraniums Convolvulus Brachycombe Felicia Fuchsias E.G.- A tray of Brachycombe cuttings = about 40 plants ;D
I would never be able to afford to buy all the plants I use ;D

I have winter pansys in baskets that are looking a bit tired can i just replace them with something else or should i redo the whole baskets. They have ivy and some other evergreen in them that ive forgot the name of ;D And what can i replace them with Cheers Steve

Steve I think they're looking lovely and if you give them a feed and keep deadheading them they'll last a good while longer. It's a bit too early to suggest most of the things to replace them with, i.e. trailing begonia, lobelia, bizzylizzies etc.....

My baskets will need renewing next year - they're beginning to look the worse for wear Perhaps I'll have a complete rethink - but for this year it's fuchsias and more fuchsias
