They'll give you lots of colour for ages all being well. Those pink ones in particular are smashing.

I usually do pansies and cyclamen and primroses just Chuckles. Easy to look after and hardy which they really need to be here. I've got tiny baby pansy seedlings on the go at the moment.

I don't even feel like my summer hanging baskets have got going really By November a lot of my pots have been planted with tulip bulbs and a few pots may get some violas or primroses or wall flowers planted on top.

I do Tulips in my main pots & then top off with anything that's available at the time, usually violas or Primroses.
For years I used bedding Cyclamen as they would last all Winter here. The last two Winters though have finished them off far to quickly, probably try some again though as they're my favourites.
I used to plant small bulbs in them too but now small pots of Daffs & Crocus, even Snowdrops are only a couple of pounds to buy ready to flower, I use those to plunge into any gaps in the Spring.

Well those lovely Asters further up the page lasted about a week & then just started going over, no matter how much they were fed, watered & deadheaded i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/rolleyes.gif The little Phlox did really well though & has now been moved to one of the borders. Here's the Cyclamen I replaced them with, all under planted with Iris Reticulata. I haven't been over generous with the watering, it's been tipping down all morning. And this is why I can't even think about planting the Tulip bulbs yet, they look a bit tatty round the edges as I'm leaving the Poppies to set seed, some chance of the heads ever drying in this weather. Please don't even look at the Sprouts, they're just there to keep the trough filled until the Raspberries arrive. The one further up the garden near the bird table is much better as I've got help keeping the caterpillars down. i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/wink.gif Jillyx

Those are lovely little containers of Cyclamen Jilly, being underplanted with the Iris will keep them going for a good long time. Are'nt the leaves just great too.

I underplanted a load of bulbs one year and when they came up they pushed the top plants out of the pots :-[I plan on putting pansies in the hanging baskets and bulbs in the pots......I am not going mad this year as I am always too impatient when they finish flowering cos I want to pull them up straight away instead of waiting for them to die right back....

Nobody seeems to have posted on this thread for ages! So here goes - I shall 'confess' as well... I was lucky enough to win a prize for a short story I wrote last year, and I wanted to buy something 'special' for the garden. I decided on two pots to finish off the seating area (in the new wall niche). I found them today - and I bought a selection of plants to fill them, too. It was great not to feel guilty for once! The two pots in position...One of them closer-up.

What a great way to use your prize money Geranium, you can sit on your seat & come up with another story , love the colour combination in the pots.

Jilly Thanks, I'll have to get wrapped up warm I think, seeing the forecast last night! I was so pleased to find the pots - I'd been hoping to find olive-y green ones. Not only that, but they had a fiver off each at the moment!

I've got several in different shades of green Geranium, they're great because they're green you can put any colour combination you like in them & they'll tone in. I love bright blue containers because of the contrast & soft terracotta because they look great even when they're empty, but I do think green is the most useful colour.
