Tig had mentioned it would be a good idea to have a dedicated thread so here it is. Auricula is off this morning to watch the torch arriving. I've been watching it on TV and it's really quite emotional. History in the making. It was great to see the designers of the torch speaking on BBC1, they entered a competition and won. How cool is that. i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/smiley.gif

Went to Marazion this morning to see the Olympic torch relay. Lots of people but as we were all spread along the route it wasn't too crowded. It was warm and sunny and the atmosphere was very festive - the sponsors gave out flags, hats etc and everything seemed well organised. We saw the girly running with the torch and then were lucky enough to see an actual hand over. She then got on the bus which had the other runners on board and a whole host of torches. It was well worth seeing and if it comes near you, I'm sure you'd enjoy this once in a lifetime experience i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/smiley.gif media coverage coming towards us passing us off she goes

Lovely pics Auricula In 1948 Barry (then aged about 7 years old) watched Bill Nankoville carry the torch past the end of the road where they lived- the torch bearer was Bobby Davro's Dad

OK I just wondered if she was a celeb.

No, she's a local called Johanna Dickinson. She is in loads of national photos though, because she took over the flame on the beach with St Michael's Mount in the background. All the celebs were at Land's End, and that was toooooooo early for me ;D

It's coming our way a week tomorrow. I was saying just now to the hubster that it's the sort of thing I should make the effort to go and see because it's the sort of thing I'll only see once in my lifetime. However, I'm not sure I'm really that fussed lol

Yesterday a lady said it was a long wait for nothing, the most exciting thing she saw was a shoplifter being chased for a bottle of wine, is that why you're incognito Auricula. ;D

I went into town to watch it this evening. There were far too many people, don't know why they all bothered to turn out - it was a long wait and then whooooooooosh - the torch bearer had gone past ;D There was other stuff on as well though, acrobats and circus performers. So more for the kids to see, and a procession of sorts ... did take some piccies, will post later when I've cooled down, it was hot, and all those people got me even more hot and bothered And I saw a bit of a scuffle with some youths, and a police van across the road - doors swung open and an swarm of officers came flying out - like wasps they were x Tig

I got into town about half five, and already the crowds were gathered right along the route, being of limited stature , I tried to find somewhere a bit higher so that I could perhaps see something ... Toilets were available, in the middle of a traffic island that was completely cut off by the barriers , good planning peeps Processions ain't what they used to be .... we had police on motorcycles sirens blazing, then this ... More police, some in cars tooting and sirens frightening little children ... then this The torch was supposed to be 10 minutes behind these vehicles - got a bit bored waiting, and this pulled up by the side of me, immediately thought of PJ and her hubby OK, more claxons, must be getting close Nearly missed her!!!! Camera decided to switch itself off - it's OK though, I saw the flame as the crowds dispersed I walked into the Market Square where we were promised an acrobatic display on a specially constructed Olympic Arch ... Evidently there was a delay, probably due to the acrobats having a tea break ... was ready to go and get some chips but just had time to snap some of the artistes posing for the papers ... Glad I made the effort, there were so many people and lots of children, some from schools 15 miles away and they had made banners and other Olympic regalia and were so excited by it all. x Tig

Ha Tig, love the photos, and the commentary!!! Did anyone see the Channel4 news on Wednesday? As the 'paralympic broadcaster' they are pushing the disability angle. It was shocking that the poor girl had to go to the end of the tube line from Heathrow and back again, in order to get off that particular line. I was in London the other week and was looking at things like that. When I get my pics up I'll show you what I was looking at. But yeah, I saw the gaps at the tube stations. Several of them. I wondered, why the heck don't they just add paving at the very edge, at night, a station a night and do it right? I know the system is ancient....but still. anyway, it's going to be here next week, god knows why!!! i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/undecided.gif I saw Chris Bonnington on Anglesea. Is it already in Staffordshire?

Thanks for the photos Tig - it is a bit of a faff, but It's good to be part of something we won't see again. Loved the acrobats costumes It's nice when children are involved - I love their uncomplicated excitement of it all

I am glad I made the effort to go, as you say it won't be something I'll ever see again and if I'd blinked I'd have missed it It should have been pouring down according to the weather forecast LG, but as usual they got it wrong - just as well because so many people turned out to see it, that in itself was worth seeing as these days people don't seem to get enthused by much. x Tig

I haven't been there since I was expecting my firstborn, back in 1971! I had a terrible hot flush and felt faint, had to be escorted outside with a glass of water - I was so embarassed I never went back! Doubt they'd recognise me now though ;D

The Council put the wrong date on the huuuuuuuuuuuuuuge signs along Manchester Road it said Friday 1st June when in fact it was yesterday so most people missed it It appears to be back and to and end of June it is back in Stockport Very confusing I am wondering if there is more than one torch i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd161/GWDAdmin1/Smilies/Default/huh.gif
